Client: SJ Berwin
Location: London
Sites involved: 5
Users: 70+
Frequency: 2-3 times a week
Sector: Legal

Overview
SJ Berwin, a law firm with offices in Paris, Munich, London, Frankfurt and Brussels had a variety of legacy equipment, several offices and different needs for a VC system across the company.  Margolis' video communications consultants were called in to provide a flexible and expandable soultion.

There was a requirement for partners to discuss clients at multi-national management meetings with upto 70 people involved in some meetings.

Berwin were using ISDN but wanted to trial IP across their network with a view to using IP as their default carraige.

There was also a view to stream some meetings to the desktop.

margolis consultant's comment
We met with the client a number of times and discussed the immediate requirments for the company. From analysing the existing equipment, methodologies and trying to forecast their future expansion, we started to get a picture of which combinations would suit them.

We discussed a trial using IP and had our mnet team audit their system and include a report on how best to configure things.

Equipment recommended
Tandberg 6000 in London
Tandberg 880 in Brussels and Frankfurt. To be rolled out to the other offices in due course

Outcome
The company use their system at least 2 or 3 times a week , sometimes 1-to-1 and sometimes multisite, connecting 3 or 4 offices together in one conference call.

The equipment recommended had enough capacity for high-quality calls over IP as they improved their network but could also fall back to ISDN if need be or to call a VC outside their system.

Margolis structured the systems so that the IP network would carry traffic, effectively cost-free between their connected sites.

The client still has a few old Picturetel systems in Munich and Brussels which will be swapped out for Tandberg 880s when existing obligations end.

The switch to a IP First solution is underway.

The client received a custom solution to their problem and the long term benefit will be the flexibility of the system we have now provided for them.

Margolis looked closely at how we worked, thought we wanted to work and suggested how we might work. Their advice and solution was solid.
